Montrose Malt Assault
For the second year now, Riff Raff has been a part of the Montrose Malt Assault, a beer festival in the delightful town of Montrose, CO. Montrose is a few hours drive away from Pagosa Springs, traveling right through the San Juan National Forest, passing a few 14‘ers on the way, through some quaint little mountain towns like Silverton and Ouray. Our brewers got to see some awesome scenery on their way to an equally awesome event.
The Malt Assault this year was on June 4th, and the event benefits Habitat for Humanity of the San Juans. The festival is even held at a park behind the Habitat for Humanity of the San Juans ReStore. Like any awesome beer fest, there was beer, food, live music, and fun! 15 different breweries came from all over Colorado: Durango, Grand Junction, Boulder, Windsor, Palisade, Denver, yours truly, and a whole bunch more.
There was some sweating in the heat–92 degrees in Montrose! But, regardless, we had a great time showing off our brews, mingling with good folk, hanging out with babies and dogs (our owner/head brewer’s dog, Kaya, was labeled “Kaya the Brew Dog” during the weekend), enjoying some live music, and getting new inspiration! Check out this lilac bush! The little wheels inside our heads are already turning with the thought of a lilac outlaw tap. What do you guys think? I think we should run with it. A light, flowery, lilac beer for summer? Oh yes, we think so too.
We had a great time at the Montrose Malt Assault, and we are already looking forward to next year!
