Paul’s Story

Riff Raff Brewing Company co-founder Jason Cox’s friend and brewing mentor, Dr. Paul Ogg, inspired a unique and unprecedented collaboration movement in the craft beer world just before he died of a rare form of cancer in 2016. The Biggest Small Beer Ever Made project included more than 100 breweries in all 50 states brewing the same beer recipe to celebrate American Craft Beer Week in May 2016.

In 2019, Riff Raff Brewing Company installed a used brewing system purchased from Blackstone Brewing Company in Nashville, TN, and Jason noticed the label on one of the brewing tanks had a familiar hashtag: #BiggestSmallBeer. Before closing the Blackstone Nashville brewpub in 2016, the final beer brewed into the tank was Paul’s Imperial Porter recipe for the 2016 collaboration. Coincidence?
